I just found a little box full of hospital armbands.
Dates range from the week after my first stroke in January 2007 through the time I lost the box in February 2008.
When I finally realized I'd lost the box I figured that was for the best and stopped saving them. I realized that if I ever pulled all of them out of the box and counted them I'd be a big wimp and cry.
I was right.
32 armbands in little over a year.
Mostly emergency room visits because I had the idiot idea that I was wasting money by going to the doctor all the time. :(
My life is Ridiculous. Capital, yes.
THAT SAID.
I went to Black's to get a new bag of pellets for Holly. There are two stores I go to for everything I need for him, which is probably a hint as to why the staff know me as the girl with the spoiled rabbit. Black's is the one near my house, within walking distance, where I get his pellets and anything else I need that they supply - they're local and family owned so I try to support them, though they don't sell the recycled paper litter I like and are limited in their supply of hay.
So I go in and there's two staff there, a mother and daughter, and the mother's on the phone to the IRD and the daughter's about to leave. Mother asks me if I need any help, and by now I've seen that they have rabbits in and am cooing over them and the daughter's like "oh, no, she'll be fine there admiring the rabbits." Which I am. They are adorable. There are three of them, I'd say about six to eight weeks old though it's hard to tell because they're a mixed breed and I can't gauge exact size etc. But they're fairly small, fawn coloured and very delicate - long narrow heads, thin legs, small feet. idk, I was probably watching them about twenty minutes?
When the manager/owner/whatever she is was done on the phone I went to get rung up and asked what gender they are - if she'd said boys I could have forgotten about it, I can't put another boy in with Holly, I've never bonded rabbits before and same sex pairs are harder. But they're not. They're all girls. And she got points for knowing rabbit breeds, we had a short conversation about what they might have in them. The guy who brought them in said they were a lop/Dutch mix, and the Dutch can be fairly delicate so that sounds okay, though we also wondered about the possibility of a bit of Rex because of the head shape, but they don't have the fur or whiskers of a Rex. Their ears are fairly large compared to the rest of them, too, so definitely no Netherland dwarf.
So idk what they are. But I had been considering a mix breed (there have been a few lop/Dutch litters on trademe, as well as a half lop, quarter satin, quarter angora litter that are gorgeous) because purebreeds can be a little more prone to health problems.
Luckily I cannot impulse buy a rabbit right now. I do have enough money for a rabbit, I'm sure - there was no price sign but I really don't see them being more than NZ$60, which is what Animates sells them for, and I have that much if not much more - but I need a new bag of litter and I would also need hay, both for bedding in the other cage (not just throwing a new rabbit in with Holly and crossing my fingers!) and for chewings. Holly stopped eating it much after he had his teeth out but it would be grossly irresponsible not to supply it for a rabbit with teeth intact.
If they are still there on Tuesday though. omg.
I'm just. It's not that I don't believe in coincidences, I do. But I don't believe coincidences are always coincidences and I believe in connections and particularly in regards to the welfare of an animal because my god is not a human god. I don't get like this about the rabbits I see at Animates.
*sigh* I cannot get another rabbit until I have more money. Really, I cannot. Emergency vet fund and all.
^ this, incidentally, is exactly why I don't approve of pet stores selling live animals.
I'm thankful for Atticus Finch. He knows why.

Holly is super super happy - last night we moved his hutch and I re set up his yard on the other side of the lawn where he has fresh long grass and less insects. He was sprinting around it last night being very bouncy and excited, it was adorable.

I don't even.
I pretty much finished my Christmas shopping for the year. It wasn't hard. Since I took the handmade pledge a couple of years ago, I've been sticking to it for most occasions, except for some weddings because brides know what they want and they register for it :-P
All of our parents are getting something very special. I wish I could tell you all what it is, but I don't know who reads this so I don't want to ruin the surprise!
Actually I should just shut up about it all because I will just ruin all of the surprises. I know, it might be silly have all your Christmas shopping done before Thanksgiving, but after the baby is born I might not see the light of day again (at least in December).
It's a little sad for me that we will not be home for Christmas this year - it's the first time in my life. This Christmas, however, our family will be complete, we'll have our two children there, and we'll just have to have our own Christmas.
I did get a present or two for each baby, but considering that they are babies and have no idea what's going on, I didn't get more than that. Madeleine got enough toys for her first birthday to last her until she's at least 18 months old (developmentally), so she won't be getting much. The other baby will only be a month old, tops, so it's really more for our own enjoyment that we give her a gift.
I made holiday cookies last weekend to freeze for December, but I've been stealing some every now and then... I'm not sure they're going to make it until Christmas. I want to do something special for Christmas, but I doubt I'll have time to cook a huge meal with a baby around, so we might end up just having a big pot of chili and a cracker/meat/cheese tray.
This weekend we drove by our hospital so that we will know where to go when the time comes. I just hope that the baby gives me enough warning to get there in time, and enough warning for people to get here to watch Madeleine.
I'm also kind of in trouble because I haven't been practicing my relaxation/self-hypnosis techniques for labor. I reallllly don't want an epidural, but at this point, I am only working with what I remember from hypnosis with Madeleine. I just can't get myself to do it, it's like I'm in denial or something.
Madeleine has been a little cranky-pants lately. I *think* it's because she has a molar coming in, but I'm not sure. Whatever the case is, she's kind of driving us nuts because we just can't seem to please her. Yesterday was especially rough. I just hope she does okay while I'm in the hospital for a couple of days!
